Some acne scars sit deeper in the skin and create a sunken or uneven appearance. Rolling scars are a common example, often caused by bands of scar tissue pulling the skin downward. Because these scars develop below the skin's surface, regular skincare products may have only a limited effect on their appearance.

First Step – Skin and Scar Assessment
Before the treatment, the skin and acne scars are examined closely to understand how deep the scars are and how they are attached beneath the skin. This helps the specialist decide whether subcision is suitable and which areas need to be treated.
Subcision is particularly considered for rolling or tethered atrophic acne scars. Not every acne scar responds to the same procedure, which is why proper evaluation is important before treatment.
Second Step – Releasing the Scar Tissue
Before beginning the procedure, the treatment area is cleansed and local anaesthesia may be used to improve comfort.
A specialised sterile needle or cannula is then carefully introduced beneath the depressed scar. The fibrous strands attaching the scarred skin to deeper tissue are gently released. This allows the depressed area to become less tethered to the underlying tissue.
The procedure also initiates a natural wound-healing response within the treated area, which can support collagen remodelling over time.
Third Step – Aftercare and Recovery
Following subcision, mild swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising may occur around the treated area. These effects are generally temporary, although recovery varies from person to person.
